Some of the common methods doctors use to recommend a baby's gender are:


This is one of the most accurate ways to determine the gender of a baby. Ultrasound scans are usually done during the first and second trimesters. 

An ultrasound, which is done in the second trimester – around 18-20 weeks – can determine the gender of the baby. But again, it depends on the position of the baby.


This is a blood test performed on pregnant women who are at high risk of having a baby with a genetic or chromosomal disease. During this test, performed around the 16th week of pregnancy, a small amount of amniotic fluid is removed with a needle inserted into the uterus.
